First of all, this post is about the original Canon G7X which was released in 2014.
Not the G7X Mark II which was released in 2016, or the G7X Mark III which was released in 2019.
If you were looking for answers for the Mark II (from 2016) or Mark III (from 2019) check out the links below:
The short answer is that there is no external microphone input on the original Canon G7X (2014 model), so you cannot connect an external microphone to it.
However, there is still another way to use external audio without connecting a microphone to your G7X.

Can You Connect An External Mic To Canon G7X (2014)
💡 To connect an external microphone to the G7X you would need a 3.5mm external microphone jack.
Unfortunately, the original 2014 model of the Canon G7X does not have a 3.5mm external microphone jack.
You can still use external audio without physically attaching a mic to the G7X (described later in the post).
Since the Canon G7X does not have an external mic input, you might want to use an alternative camera that does have a mic input.
Alternative To The Canon G7X That Has A Mic Input
If you like the G7X, then the G7X Mark III could be a good option as the G7X Mark III has an external microphone input.
The G7X Mark III was released in 2019, 5 years after the original G7X which was released in 2014.Â
There is also the G7X Mark II which was released in 2016 but just like the original G7X, the G7X Mark II does not have an external microphone input.

Using External Audio With The G7X Without Connecting Mic
Using external audio is still possible without physically connecting a microphone to your G7X.
You can do this by recording your video and audio separately and then synchronizing them in your post-production process.
To do this, you would do the following:
- Record your video with your Canon G7X.
- Record audio separately with an external microphone not connected to the camera.
- Join the two audio and video tracks together in your editing software.
Of course, if you decide to do this you’d need to make sure that the microphone you use can be powered without relying on the camera.
The video below shows you one way of doing this with a Sony a6000, but the same concept applies to the G7X.
Conclusion
Now you should know that you cannot mount an external microphone to the original Canon G7X (from 2014) as it does not have a 3.5mm microphone jack, but there are still ways to use external audio.
