Unfortunately, you are unable to charge the original Canon Powershot G7X (2014) with a USB, but you can charge the G7X Mark II and G7X Mark III if you have the correct USB cable.

To charge the Powershot G7X you will need to charge the batteries using an external charger.

If you find that you’re running out of charge too quickly you can buy extra replacement batteries online.

The original G7X uses the Canon Li-ion NB-13L battery. You can choose to get yourself Canon branded ones or third-party replacements.

The G7X Mark II and G7X Mark III also use the Canon NB-13L battery.

How Do You Charge the Canon G7X With a USB?

As mentioned above you can’t charge the original Canon G7X (2014 model) through USB, and you will have to charge the batteries with an external charger.

Can You Charge a G7X Mark II With a USB?

Yes, you can charge the G7X Mark II through USB.

You will need to use an IFC-600PCU cable as a USB charger cable for the G7X Mark II.

This is a type of micro USB cable.

Please note that the IFC-600PCU cable does not come as standard in the box with the Canon G7X Mark II.

This means you will have to either buy your own or use one that you already have.

To be clear the IFC-600PCU is a micro USB to USB cable.

You can buy a Canon branded version or a third-party version online. Below are some examples you can check out.

Now that you have the correct cable. Let’s cover how to use it to charge your G7X Mark II.

How Do You Charge a Canon G7X Mark II With a USB?

Connect the IFC-600PCU cable to your Canon G7X Mark II.

The smaller end of the cable should go into the micro USB port on the side of the Canon G7X Mark II.

The other end should go into your main power source.

Your power source can be something like a portable power bank, a computer or a USB wall charger which can plug into your mains electricity.

When you’ve plugged in your USB correctly a light should light up on your camera to show that the camera is charging.

Try using a computer first to see if it works. If not you can try buying a wall charger like the ones below.

I’ve included the recommended Canon wall charger for the G7X Mark II below, as well as a third-party option.

The main thing you want to look for is that the wall charger has at least one standard USB-A port for one end of your IFC-600PCU cable to go into.

A USB-A port is the rectangular-shaped USB port that you find on most laptops and computers.

The video below shows an example of somebody charging their G7X Mark II using a third-party power bank.

Can You Charge a Canon G7X Mark III With a USB?

Yes, you can charge the G7X Mark III through USB.

You will need to use an IFC-100U cable as a USB charger cable for the G7X Mark III.

This is a type of USB-C to USB-C cable.

Please note that the IFC-100U cable does not come as standard in the box with the Canon G7X Mark III.

This means you will have to either buy your own or use one that you already have to charge your G7X Mark III through USB.

You may already have a USB-C to USB-C cable from another device such as a power bank or wall charger.

If you already have a USB-C to USB-C cable then you don’t need to worry about getting the Canon one.

Below you can find links to the official Canon cable or third party alternatives.

How Do You Charge a Canon G7X Mark III With a USB?

First, connect the IFC-100U cable to your Canon G7X Mark III.

Both ends are USB-C so it doesn’t matter which goes where.

One end should go into the USB-C port on the side of the Canon G7X Mark III.

The other end should go into your main power source.

Similarly to the G7X Mark II, this can be something like a portable power bank or a USB wall charger which can plug into your mains electricity.

💡 You need to make sure that your main power source is Power Delivery (PD) compliant.

We include some examples below that are Power Delivery (PD) compliant.

Remember that a power bank will hold charge, but a wall charger will only charge your battery when it is plugged into the mains.

The other option is to buy a 2 in 1 Wall charger/power bank.

Below I’ve included the Canon recommended charger as well as a third-party alternative:
